Writing the Next Chapter of Civilization: Insights from Farzam Ehsani
At Istanbul Blockchain Week 2025, Farzam Ehsani, Co-Founder and CEO of VALR, shared a thought-provoking vision for the future of global finance, drawing on historical perspectives and the role of cryptocurrency in the changing world. Farzam explored how the world is in the midst of a major transition, where old systems are being replaced by new, more efficient ones that transcend borders and political boundaries.
He emphasised that humanity is experiencing tectonic shifts in how we will operate, govern, and identify ourselves. Farzam proposed that, much like the internet transformed the world in just a few decades, we are on the cusp of seeing a monumental change in the global financial system. He believes that in the near future, we may see the end of traditional fiat currencies, including the US dollar, replaced by digital, borderless currencies.
Farzam also discussed the role of trust in monetary systems, asserting that it is trust—not physical power—that drives the value of money. He referenced examples of hyperinflation in countries like Zimbabwe and highlighted the growing global scepticism towards traditional financial systems, especially as currencies are increasingly used as political tools.
Concluding his speech, Farzam stressed the importance of integrity in the crypto industry, urging those involved to act responsibly and build systems that benefit humanity as a whole. He shared his vision of a future where a universal system of digital currency simplifies transactions, eliminates frictions in the current system, and fosters global unity.
Farzam’s speech was a call to action for the crypto community to work together to create a new financial system that serves people across the world, beyond borders and national identities.
By focusing on innovation, trust, and the power of cryptocurrency, Farzam envisions a future where we can transcend the limitations of our current financial systems and build a more connected, equitable world.
